About Wendy Vesela-Ntimbani:

O&N: Where are you from?

WVN: I was born In a village called ‘Kheyi’, I grew up and finished high school North of South Africa in a town called Phalaborwa in Limpopo Province.

O&N: Were you in any line of work before what you do now?

WVN: Yes, I am qualified Chemical Engineer

O&N: If yes, what lead to the change?

WVN: Becoming a mother lead to the change, I started researching they type of food we consume and the effects (whether positive or negative) it had on us as people. I also moved around with my family, where I learned different cultures, cuisines, food types and ingredients.

O&N: How long has the company been around?

WVN: Since November 2021

O&N: Tell us about your product range?

WVN:

  • Mopani worms – Our Mopani worms are perfect as a snack or added as an ingredient in stews or on pizza.
  • Mopani Flour – Our Mopani flour is made from stone-ground Mopani worms which is great as an addition in pancakes, when baking or as a sauce thickener.
  • Mopani Biscuits – The Mopani biscuits are a high protein savoury snack made with stone-ground Mopani worms and are perfect with tea, a cold beer or just because!”
  • Mopani Protein Bar (to be launched by May 2022) – High in protein booster snack

WVN: Our products are 60% natural protein. Our ingredients are sourced and made locally (South Africa).

O&N: What kind of consumer marketing do you do?

WVN: We are on social media and connect with our consumers and potential customers in those platforms.

WVN: We have a couple stores in Limpopo Province and Gauteng. We are looking to grow and have stock nationally across all provinces.

O&N: Who is your target consumer market?

WVN: We are targeting people who care about what they eat. They care about natural products that are good for their health and wellness long term. We are also targeting people looking for alternative source of protein.

O&N: What are the main benefits of your product?

WVN:
