About Trade Forward Southern Africa (TFSA)
THE UK FUNDED TRADE FORWARD SOUTHERN AFRICA (TFSA) PROGRAMME ANNOUNCES A WEBINAR ON THE 29 APRIL DEMONSTRATING RESOURCES, FACILITIES AND TOOLS AVAILABLE TO HELP EXPORTERS NAVIGATE BARRIERS TO TRADE, PARTICULARLY UNDER THE NEW UK SACU+M ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT (EPA).
The UK, in 2019, signed an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the Southern African Customs Union Member States and Mozambique (SACU+M).
From the 1st January 2021, the EPA governs SACU+M-UK trade.
While the UK-SACU+M EPA closely mirrors the Economic Partnership Agreement concluded between the EU and SACU+M countries, there are certain requirements under the new agreement that are different and other changes may arise in the future.
The new EPA continues duty-free, quota-free access for all goods imported from Namibia, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho and Mozambique into the UK, as well as approximately 96% of goods imported from South Africa.
The UK Government has funded a three-year programme – Trade Forward Southern Africa (TFSA) – to support exporters in SACU+M countries to overcome non-tariff barriers to trade in key sectors. TFSA provides easy access to product-specific information and knowledge relating to the customs duties, taxes, rules, regulations, and standards required for export to the UK under the new UK-SACU+M EPA and for wider global markets.
TFSA launched a digital Trade and Information Hub in November 2020 which is an online platform for businesses to use to start to or continue to grow their exports. It brings together a focused and evolving range of interactive resources, tools and facilities from multiple global sources.
These resources, facilities and tools are highly valuable to exporters in business planning and decision-making. In pilot demonstrations the Hub has been well received by businesses.
TFSA is conducting a series of regional Webinars across the SACU+M region targeting exporters, business support organisations, and business media to raise awareness about these resources and demonstrate their use.
