Africa Agricultural Indaba: 3-Day Programme Highlights
Day 1, Wed, 20 May 2026: Current Eastern Cape Agricultural Landscape
The conference opens today with registration and accreditation. The official welcome and opening prayers are led by the Border-Kei Chamber of Business (BKCOB), followed by opening addresses from the Buffalo City Metro Municipality Executive Mayor and the Eastern Cape MEC for Agriculture. Honourable Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane will deliver the highly anticipated Keynote Address. The rest of Day 1 delves into the Eastern Cape’s agro-processing perspectives and macro-investment trends with insights from DEDEAT, East London IDZ, and the Department of Agriculture. The afternoon features a crucial panel discussion with District Directors representing regions such as Amathole, Joe Gqabi, Buffalo City, and Chris Hani to review the current state of regional agriculture.
Day 2, Thu, 21 May 2026: Industry Perspectives, Field Tours and Breakaways
Day 2 shifts focus toward specific industry dynamics, starting with discussions on sustainable wool production by Cape Wools South Africa, the economic potential of grain crops by Premier FMCG, and agricultural school commercialisation. Mid-morning sessions will explore horticultural value chains with Freshmarket Systems, aquaculture constraints with the Coega Development Corporation, and the impact of digital technology with Vodacom. In the afternoon, delegates can choose between interactive field tours or specialized breakaway sessions. Busses will depart for site visits to Summerpride Foods, Blueberry Hill Hydroponic Farm, Sundale Dairy, and Premier FMCG Fort Jackson. Alternatively, the breakaway sessions will tackle international market readiness, animal welfare, and the regulatory framework for cannabis and hemp.
Day 3, Fri, 22 May 2026: Agency Support, Trade Finance and The Pledge
The final day focuses heavily on growth, finance, and future commitments, opening with a recap of Day 2 and an overview of trade opportunities in the Middle East by the Dubai Chamber. Key regional agencies, including the ECRDA and ECDC, will present their institutional support programmes and trade landscape value propositions. A dedicated session on Trade Finance & Incentive Opportunities will feature development funding instruments from the IDC, DTIC, and SEDFA. The Indaba will culminate in a landmark Signing of Pledge Ceremony, representing a unified stakeholder commitment toward the long-term growth and development of agriculture and agro-processing in the Eastern Cape. The event concludes with the announcement of the 2027 conference dates and a final networking lunch.
